Our Story

God’s timing is so perfect!

Teresa and I met several years ago. Gospel music brought us together. I was producing the Stellar Awards and she was the Director of National Promotions at Savoy Records. Our relationship was cordial and professional. Teresa served on the screening committee for our Awards show. Years later, following the passing of my late wife, Rose, Teresa and I sat together at a gospel music event and began to chat. A week or so later, I was “divinely” impressed to pursue a deeper relationship with Teresa. I tactfully, but deliberately began to reach out to her and our relationship blossomed. As we have gotten to know each other, we have found love again and decided to spend the rest of our lives together.

How it began

The Proposal

February 2023

Teresa’s family and friends came together at a restaurant in Atlanta to celebrate her birthday. The next day, she and I went on a brief vacation…It was the perfect time to “pop the question.” I did, and she said “YES!”

Don and I commit to the journey ahead. We acknowledge that this level of commitment is God’s expectation for marriage. I look forward to all the wonderful promises of joy in our unity in marriage. Because of this . . . I will concentrate on loving Don. I know this journey will involve challenges, changes and tests, but I know that God’s wisdom will guide me through any challenge we face. The passage in Eph. 5:22-23 says, “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.”  It is followed in Eph 5:25,28 with: ”Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.” In this passage, it is reiterated that in a covenant marriage the husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her.

Teresa and I have lived many years and had many experiences. However, when we walk down the aisle, it will be the last time that we are a man and woman apart. We will stand before God and those who come to witness the miracle of two becoming one. We will become one flesh—a shared identity. We have different backgrounds, families, educations, hurts, habits—yet now, in covenant, we will be one. Teresa is such a special and beautiful lady–inside and out. I am excited to enter into the covenant of holy matrimony with her. I want to spend the rest of my life loving her and making our lives together joyful! Marriage is a wonderful institution and I treasure the opportunity to care for Teresa and share my life with her.
